Brandow & Johnston Press Release
As of January 1, 2018, Brandow & Johnston, Inc. has become B&J HBK, Inc., a California Corporation. The nearly 75-year-old Structural and Civil Engineering firm will continue to operate as “Brandow & Johnston” from its offices in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, CA. The firm was divested from its parent company with an investment from HBK Engineering, LLC ownership and Brandow & Johnston principals. HBK is a utility engineering company based in Chicago with offices in Philadelphia, Iowa City, and Baltimore. Karl Wohler of PSMJ Resources, Inc., introduced the two companies and provided transaction advisory services to Brandow & Johnston.
Brandow & Johnston was founded in 1945 in Los Angeles as a partnership of two legendary structural engineers, George Brandow and Roy Johnston. The company provides structural, civil, seismic, and forensic engineering to a diverse group of private and public-sector clients. In Los Angeles, they designed the first over-height building allowed by ordinance after World War II, the first all-welded structural steel office building, the city’s first major high rise and, most recently, the Wilshire Grand tower, the tallest building west of the Mississippi. It will also open avenues for Brandow & Johnston to expand its building-focused structural engineering services across all of HBK’s markets in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Iowa City and Chicago.”
Brandow & Johnston and HBK share similar core values and continue to provide our clients outstanding service with innovative project deliverables. The firms are both committed to their industries and community and are actively involved in mentoring programs, athletics programs, low income housing projects across Southern California.
