Throwback Thursday: 550 South Hope

The 550 South Hope Tower was the last high-rise office building constructed in Downtown Los Angeles in 1993 before the recently completed 73 story Wilshire Grand Tower. This 28-story office tower with six levels of parking is immediately adjacent to the Los Angeles Central Library and across from the California Club. The architectural design relates effectively to the historical site through sensitive use of scale, colors and materials. The lateral resisting system of the building is of combination of braced frames and moment frames designed to remain elastic for the maximum probable earthquake.
